Where are the towels made?

The towels are made in Pakistan. Owners, Kumy (a Pakistani-American) and his wife Ann (a native Nebraskan), have had close ties to farmers and manufacturers in Pakistan since 1990 and are proud of their pioneering and ongoing support of environmentally-safe manufacturing.

Are these towels as soft as velour or terry towels?

While plushy softness can come with a price, as it can hold moisture for a long time, Gilden Tree's waffle towels do get softer over time. Their waffle weave is a little bumpier, offering a gentle exfoliation that most people actually end up appreciating.
